~The Burning Plains~
Welcome! Burning Plains is a roleplaying site based off of both The Named series by Clare Bell, and the Warriors series by Erin Hunter. It is set in a prehistoric world, after dinosours, but long before humans. Three clans of wild cats known as The Named thrive in their territories, rivals for the prey that they herd, while The Un-named lurk in the shadows, always waiting for a chance to grab an animal from one The Named herds. Do you have what it takes to survive in this ancient world? Also, visit the official site for the Named! www.rathascourage.com
Updates: The site is open! We encourage new members to join, we promise we don't bite ;) There are currently several high positions open for grabs. We are working our plot now, and it's gonna be good! - Silver

Clan of the Golden Flame
Golden Flame Camp (7 sub-boards) The Clan of the Golden Flame has a good, strong camp, well protected from enemy attack. The camp is in a large crator. It is deep and round, the sides steep, to fall from the edge looking over into the camp would be a cat's death, even if they did land on their paws. There is a steep, narrow trail leading down into the heart of the crator that is just level enough to walk on without falling, though you have to watch your step so you don't slip. In the center of the camp a large rock, the meteor that fell and made the crator. It is relativly small compared to the massive crator impact it had on the earth, but it serves as a good rock for clan meetings. Moderator: Silver

The Grasslands The grasslands are endless miles of tall, flowing golden grass. In the territory it is almost always windy, and on a breezy day you come here and the sight of the grass swaying gently in the wind is really very lovely. It is mostly open, but there are a many tall, green trees that stand out. They are spread apart very wide, there aren't any right next to each other, so the Grassland retains it's open feeling. A small creek runs through the middle, a valuble water source. This is where the clan keeps their herdbeasts most of the time unless there is danger. It has both food and water for the animals, and plenty of space for them to run, but also space for the herders to manuver to keep them there. It is easy to see for miles to know if an enemy is coming, but if one got close enough it could hide in the tall grass, so the Gaurdians have to be on watch constantly. Moderator: Silver

The Shady Glade This is a favorite place for clan cats to come and relax, especially since the rest of there isn't a lot of shade on the territory, and the sun is constantly beating down on the clan cats, making them hot and tired after a long day's works. This little glade is a very peaceful place, always alive with the sounds of birds chirping. There are three giant trees, all ancient and twisted, leaning over toward one another, their branches interlocking, to create a canopy that blocks out the harsh rays of the sun. There is also a big flat rock off to one side of the glade that is perfect for midday naps, and a little pond is right in the middle, alive with prehistoric fish, a tasty snack for a hungry warrior. The Cave On the very fringes of clan territory, there is a wide, deep ravine created long ago by a devistating earthquake. Before the quake, when the ground was flat, this used to be where the old camp was, but the quake split it in half, and cost many lives. The dirt here is a deep red color, and many cats believe it is because of all the innocent blood shed here during the earthquake. To back up the story, nothing every grows in the ravine, and the ground is unfertile. When you go down into the ravine, you see a huge, gaping hole to your left, and it leads into a huge earthen cave. Nobody knows how it came to be there, but many think that it was always there underneath the old camp, and the quake exposed it. There is an old firepit in the center of the cave, and should the clan ever need to escape their camp and go someplace else, it is there to be lit by the firekeepers to offer light and warmth to the fleeing cats. Sometimes cats will spend the night here if they are far from the camp and don't want to go back yet for whatever reason, exsaustion or just a chance to get away. Moderator: Silver

The Clan of the Sun
Clan of the Sun Camp (7 sub-boards) The Clan of the Sun's camp is nestled snugly at the base of Sunrise Mountain, right up against it making one whole side of the camp inpenitratable by the enemy, since no cat would bother to climb all the way up a mountain and back down again to get into an enemy camp a certain way. The other three sides of the camp are made up of tall, thick bramble bushes, though you wouldn't see them till you tried to go through them, because tall ferns and other various plants grow around the outside of the camp, hiding it's wall, so if an intruder tried to go straight through the ferns and into the camp, they will run into a prickly suprise. The entrance is small and well hidden, and it takes skill to squeeze through it without being stabbed by the sharp thorns of the brambles. Those who have gone in and out their whole life can do it with ease, but others have some trouble. Woe to those who are accepted into the clan from outside, they will have a tough time getting used to burs in their pelt.

Sunrise mountain Sunrise moutain towers above everything else and can be seen for miles. It is directly in the center of The Clan Of The Sun's territory, and the camp is nestled at it's base. Whenever a cat gets lost, they can easily find their way back to camp by heading toward the moutain. Eventually, one way or another, they will find their way home. The mountain sides are steep and rocky, and many perilous cliffs and loose boulders are all the way up it to the top. The top is flat, with a few pines and bushes. Small prey is abundent in the little valley on the top, but because of how dangerous it is to climb the steep mountain, many don't go there to eat unless starving. There is an upside to making the long and perilous trek to the top however, for at the break of dawn the sunrise is beautiful, and the whole territory can be seen, lit up with a lovely golden glow caused by the morning sun.

The Dark Wood The Dark Wood makes up for most of the territory of The Clan Of The Sun. Unlike the bright, happy atmosphere that is the home of the clan, this is quite the opposite, a dark and scary place. The woods are filled with dire wolves and bristlemanes, and even one or two giant birds stalk its shadows. They hunt on the wild untamed prey animals here, which there are plenty of, despite the large population of predators. Herders come here often to run new prey to the herd, but always go in groups, because the danger is too high. Apprentices aren't even allowed in the woods without a mentor, and because of this rule they, like apprentices do, love to break it. All apprentices caught in the wood without permission are punished, often going without dinner for a few days. It seems harsh, but it is with good reason, The Dark Wood is no place for youngsters.

The Valley of Falling Waters The Valley of Falling Waters is one of the most beautiful places in the territory of The Clan of the Sun. They treasure it and would fight to keep it. It has been in the clan for generations, long a place of resting and peace. It is a large peaceful clearing with a small lake off to one side, which has a waterfall running into it from a cliff that borders half the valley. The rest of the valley is bordered by trees from The Dark Wood. The grass that grows here is green, and the space is open enough so that danger can be seen from all sides. For this reason the clan keeps their herds here, since it is easy to gaurd. Elders often like to come here and relax in the sun, though they are accompinied by warriors because of the hazards of traveling through The Dark Wood on the way.

The Clan of the Shimmering Waters
Shimmering Water's Camp (7 sub-boards) Hidden deep within the territory of Shimmering Waters, The camp set is located within the many caves found along the cliffs, on the mountainside. Within the caves many winding tunnels lead to another, and more. For the Named that live here, you will be from the Warrior cave to the Birthing cave in a matter of seconds, But if an intruder made an attempt to enter they would get lost and die, the remains would be taken and thrown over the edge of the cliff. The only way to reach the clan camp is to travel on the steps that lead from the lakeside. The camp is hidden well by the many waterfalls that are found here, always glittering in the sunlight.

Dazzling River The Dazzling River is the pride and joy of The Clan Of The Shimmering Waters. It was well named, for the surface of the water sparkles under both the sun and the moon. While most rivers are white and foamy with their rapids, this wonderous river is completely clear, and the rapids just sparkly even more amazingly in the sun and moonlight. The banks are lined with smooth grey rocks, and it takes a sure footed cat to stay atop their slippery wet surface. Fish are plentiful, their flashing silver scales adding to the mysical sparkling of the river. They are the one food source of the clan that never dies out, for they swim in the river year round. The Clan Of The Shimmering Water is the only clan that actually enjoys the water, and they have the swimming skill to manuver even the roughest of it's rapids safely.

Steaming Ground The Steaming Ground do just that, steam. It was found long ago by an apprentice, who ran back and told the clan of a great dragon living in an underground cave, breathing it's firey steam through a hole in the roof. The clan was shocked and terrified by this, and avoided it till one day a group of warriors got lost and found themselves there. After fearfully searching the area they discovered that there was no great dragon, but a mysterious hole that blew hot steam. They told the clan that it was not harmful, and then the herds were moved there because the feild with the geyser in the middle is covered in lush green grass, and a small stream trickles through it, perfect for their herdbeasts.

Lush Forest The Lush Forest is an easy, peaceful place that many cats like to come and enjoy. It is filled with rabbits and moles, and other sorts of small prey, and occasionally larger prey animals come through that the Herders can chase back to the herd in the Steaming Grounds. There are some dangers, these woods are renouned for Dire Wolves, and a lone cat would be in great danger if they encountered a pack of them. In the center of the beautiful forest, is a great volcano. The ground surrounding it is lava black, so the clan knows it once erupted. When they first discovered it they considered moving the clan for fear of it erupting and killing them all, but one brave warrior traveled to the top and looked in, coming back alive to explain that it seemed dormant. They relaxed and now it has become a place of mystery an legend among the clan. Elders like to tell kits tales of how they climbed to the top when they were young, and some even venture to say they went inside.

The Un-named
The Crystal Pool The Crystal Pool lies far away from the territories of The Named, for if it were nearer they would have surely claimed it as their own for it's mysterious beauty. The pool is perfectly round and is deep enough to swim in, but not so deep you can't see the bottom. It is untainted by algea and other nasty water plants that you usually find in ponds such as this one. The water is crystal clear, so much that the keen of eye could make out every grain of sand at the bottom. It is filled with tiny fish of all different sorts and colors, and is a beautiful sight to watch as they dart around carelessly in the pool. The beach of the pool all the way around is sand, soft and fine like it is found on a beach. There are no trees hovering directly overhead, so the sun and moon shine brightly down onto the pool, shimmering on the water's surface. Dark, forboding jungle surounds the little clearing and it's wonderous pool, so one would wish to stay here forever and not venture back into it's deptsh.

The Jungle of Starless Nights The Jungle of Starless Nights is probably the largest and most populated area of the Un-Named. It surrounds the territories of all three clans, so should A Named venture out of their land, the moment they place a pawstep out they are in this place. The Un-Named favor it for this reason, it is close to the territories so it isn't far to steal prey from The Named herds, and it is easy to slip into the shadows with their kill and escape the angered Named. It's title was well chosen, for the canopy of branches and leaves from the trees is so thick you can never see the sky, day or night. During the day it is just bright enough for a poorer vision cat to see, and at night it is so dark those who posses keen night eyes even have trouble seeing a pawstep in front of them. Ferns and other sorts of plants you would expect from a jungle grow here, providing food for many types of prey, including the larger animals such as Dapplebacks and Three-Horns. Giant Birds also roam here, though there are not many of them, they add a chilling sense of fear to the already forboding jungle. Though it is a place that should have large quauntities of the prey it harbors, it doesn't, and the large animals are scarce, causing the cats to eat voles and mice, or steal from The Named. The reason is that so many Un-Name live here because of the closeness to The Named herds that they have all but killed off all the substancial prey in the jungle as they struggle to survive, raising the amount of stolen herdbeasts as their own food disappeares due to their large numbers.

The Grey Plains This place, like The Crystal Pool, lies far away from The Named territories. It is a place for the Un-Named who prefer not to steal from The Named herds to live. The grey plains are exactly that, grey. The grass here always seems to be half dead, so instead of a lush green, or dead brown, it is an odd color of grey. There are several plains, each seperated by think areas of jungle and forest. Each plain is substansialy large, with on or two green plants sticking up in the middle looking extremely out of place. There is a river that somehow manages to run through all of the plains providing water for its residents. In each plain there are very small herds of Three-Horns and Dapplebacks, barely managing to stay alive. They are all famished, their ribs showing and their pelts tattered. It is a rough life for The Un-Named here, and it is the only place where they work together in an almost clan-like fashion. They still live apart from each other in the surrounding area, but they all do their part making sure none of the animals leave the plains for good. Sorta like herding but less complicated. They dont fight among themselfs as much as most Un-Named, and they dont overhunt their prey. Some of them share their kills, others keep it for themselves, but they will eat the same bit of prey until the carcass is stripped and the bones chewed, that way they don't hunt off all the prey in a matter of days, always leaving enough for the herds to continue on. There are not a lot of cats here, maybe twenty or so at the most, and they are all very aggressive to outsiders. Since there isn't much prey, they can't afford to have lots of cats there, otherwise they would starve more than they already are.
